Under The Radar: Overeem vs Palvovich
By Eduardo Ramon
It is very rare that a fighter makes his UFC debut against a more than established veteran, especially against the likes of what might be the most decorated heavyweight of all time, Alistair Overeem. On November 24th, Sergey Palvovich will have his opportunity to not only make a lasting impression, but do it against a legend in the sport.
Currently on a 2 fight losing streak, Overeem (43-17) has been a mainstay in the division. Last defeated by Curtis Blaydes in June, he simply just wants to obtain the ever so sought after heavyweight title. Coming close to achieving that goal in September of 2016 while facing the then champion Stipe Miocic, but still failing, Overeem must string together multiple wins for another shot, and that’s exactly what he’s looking to do this Saturday.
The not as notable Sergey Palvovich (12-0) has been making his name known with the Russian crowd. The undefeated fighter was inevitably going to make his UFC debut sooner or later, and management clearly thinks highly of him, seeing who the debut will be against. A win for Palvovich would mean massive amounts of momentum and an automatic matchup with another top 10 heavyweight or even someone in the top 5 of the division. Needless to say Palvovich must make himself known with a win here.
UFC Fight Night 141 will take place on Saturday, November 4th. At the Cadillac Arena in Beijing, China.
