FightPost MMA Fighter of the Week: Santiago Ponzinibbio

By Kieran Cobley

This week’s MMA Fighter of the Week honours go to Argentinian fighter Santiago Ponzinibbio after his KO win over Welterweight contender Neil Magny in front of his home crowd at UFC Fight Night Buenos Aries.

This is ‘Gente Boa’s’ seventh win in a row, with the Argentinian winning nine of his last ten fights, with this being his 15th win via KO/TKO.

Ponzinibbio implemented a simple yet effective game plan throughout the fight, pushing the pace hard with his constant pressure, while using brutal savage leg kicks to soften Magny up and open up more striking options.

This played out beautifully, with Magny being dropped several times by hard leg kicks, before Ponzinibbio eventually smashed Magny with a huge right hand, making him face plant the cage floor.

With this win, Pozinibbio overtakes Magny in the rankings, and puts himself only a few fights away from a title shot.

Honourable mentions this week go to Jamie Richardson, James Webb, Cory Tait and Mads Burnell who all secured first round wins at Cage Warriors 99, as well as to Nathan Jones, who snapped his four fight losing streak with a unanimous decision win over Brad Wheeler.
