No UK TV For Josh Taylor
After a weekend where boxing was all over UK TV screens, it’s a little surprising that this weekend not one network has picked up the latest offering from the World Boxing Super Series.
Josh Taylor is one of the hottest prospects around, and not just in the UK either. Taylor (13-0) and seemingly on the fast track to world honours over the last 12 months enters the WBSS as the number two seed and is widely expected to advance to the semi-finals this weekend in Glasgow.
But UK viewers, will not get to see Taylor and his immense skills this weekend. Last weekend we had the MTK show on BoxNationTV on Friday, Matchroom’s card on Sky the following day clashing with Hughie Fury on Channel 5, swiftly followed by the latest DAZN show in America also on Sky in the early hours of Sunday morning.
After a weekend of being spoilt for choice, over saturation of the product even, this weekend we are being starved of seeing a potential star in action. Despite apparent interest from networks we can only see the fight streamed online.
After the success of the opening season, I hope that momentum hasn’t been harmed going forward.
Boxing has long suffered because of fighters avoiding each other and in many ways the WBSS offers a solution to this, and hopefully we see many more seasons to come, but they have issues to resolve
