Andrew Selby Comeback Preview
By Jack Thomas Davies
Those who do not follow boxing so intently may not have realised that Andrew Selby during the last twelve months, had received a suspension from the British Boxing Board of Control and was considering hanging up his gloves.
Those who often browse social media may have seen Selby looking particularly sharp hitting the pads across gyms across South Wales. However, many people in the trade are confident of Andrew’s ability and tip him to become a future world champion.
The last twelve months have been particularly tough for the Selby’s. Not only has Andrew’s older brother Lee lost his world title, but the family are grieving the recent passing of his mother. Without going into a great amount of detail, younger brother Andrew had been serving a ban from the BBBofC over a small skirmish with a taxi driver.
Not too long ago, Andrew had somewhat comfortably outpointed young a Nicaraguan pugilist named Cristofer Rosales. Since Selby’s suspension, Rosales has picked up the acclaimed WBC flyweight title and defended it successfully against Irish amateur star Paddy Barnes. Selby looks to rematch Rosales in the future and hopes to pick up the title which had once been held by pound for pound star Roman Gonzalez.
Selby himself is not short of his achievements, representing Britain in the Olympics, WSB and the commonwealth games, as well as picking up British and International titles as a professional. Aware of his level, Selby is looking to re-establish himself on the world scene and aims to pick up a title as soon as possible.
Firstly, Andrew returns to our screens on national Welsh channel S4C. In what will be a straight forward six rounder, we hope to see Selby return from a year where he hit rock bottom to reach the top of the tree.
Those in the know, or even those who have watched short clips of him on Instagram displaying his speed on the pads, would make a sensible judgement of him achieving this.
