Numerous outlets are reporting the sensational news that the much hyped prospect Yair Rodriguez has apparently been cut from the UFC for refusing to fight Zabit Magomedsharipov and previously turning down a fight with Ricardo Lamas.
Rodriguez (11-2) hasn’t fought since he took a too much too soon fight against Frankie Edgar in May of last year. Edgar put a fearful beating on Rodriguez and we haven’t seen him since.
It’s another example how certain fighters are treated differently. Take Conor McGregor for example, not defending his title for over 500 days, not fighting period at least in the UFC, not to mention throwing a dolly at a moving bus and injuring other UFC fighters in the process, resulting in an arrest and criminal charges.
If you bring money to the table you can do practically anything it seems.
While there is as yet no comment from Rodriguez, it might be that he wanted an easier opponent on his return, for me if so, that’s perfectly understandable.
But whatever the reasons on both sides it looks like Rodriguez is gone.
