Ringside Report: Chantelle Cameron Beats Michaela Kotaskova to Become a Two-Division World Champion

Chantelle Cameron crowned herself a two-weight world champion on Sunday night when she comprehensively defeated Michaela Kotaskova at the Olympia in London. Cameron claimed a world title in a second weight division courtesy of wide, but reflective scorecards of 100-90, 99-91, and 99-91. From ringside, I had Cameron winning every single round.

In her first fight at super-welterweight, Cameron added the WBO 154-lb title to the undisputed world super-lightweight crowns that she previously owned.

It was mostly one-way traffic for Cameron. Kotaskova had occasional success with her right hand, but the 34-year-old Northampton fighter was levels above her incredibly tough opponent.

I thought Cameron mixed up her work well, varying her attacks throughout the fight. She targeted the body all night long, and her left hook found its mark frequently. Around the fifth round, I even wondered if Cameron could force a stoppage. However, Kotaskova showed tremendous heart and gutted it out to hear the final bell.

The bout was fought over ten three-minute rounds, and the longer duration suited Cameron perfectly.

Within seconds of her victory, the next potential fight was already being discussed. The three-division world champion Mikaela Mayer was ringside and stepped forward for a face-off with Cameron — an intriguing matchup that could take place as early as August.

But ffter some difficult times over the last few years, Cameron deserves to enjoy her moment. Reunited with trainer Jamie Moore and manager Nigel Travis, she has found herself again, and she seems intent to add even more belts to her collection.
