Double-Title Showdown: Hannah Robinson vs. Charlie Sutton
Hannah Robinson and Charlie Sutton will now fight for two titles next month, and they will also be the main event at the Vertu Motors Arena in Newcastle on April 18th.

The Commonwealth Silver and IBF European super-lightweight titles will be on the line when the two British prospects trade blows in the biggest fights of their careers to date. This observer believes that next month’s fight is more than worthy of a British title being adding to it as well. I am of the understanding that it was an option that was explored, sadly, without it being sanctioned for the prestigious Lonsdale belt. Despite the progress of women’s boxing over the last few years, there are still only a handful of British titles available on the female side of the sport. Everything has to start somewhere, and Robinson and Sutton would have been a good place to start.
But the unbeaten Robinson and Sutton will know a win will move their careers forward, with some even bigger titles waiting for them down the line for whoever emerges victorious. The British title might yet materialise later this year, with enough fighters in and around the 140-pound ranks that would surely satisfy the powers that be. But regardless of whether that arrives or not, Commonwealth and European titles are more than decent alternatives. Looking further ahead, Sandy Ryan currently holds the WBO bauble at super-lightweight, and Robinson or Sutton could move a little closer to a world title fight for themselves with a win next month. It goes without saying that the winner on April 18th in Newcastle will take their career on a completely different trajectory.
Robinson, a two-time national champion, has long talked about fighting for and winning world titles, and the 31-year-old has impressed in her five fights so far as a professional. But Sutton will come with plenty of ambition herself, and the 22-year-old is on a good winning run since losing to Vaida Masiokaite in her second pro fight in 2023. Four wins since have improved her resume to 5-1, and Sutton knows how important her fight with Robinson is to her career. A win changes everything.
As previously written, Robinson and Sutton deserve credit for fighting each other. There are easier fights for both. But the reward is worth the risk, and it is a fight that fully deserves the headline slot it has been given.
