Molly McCann Moves To 3-0 in Nottingham
Molly McCann impressively extended her unbeaten start to her professional boxing career on Saturday night in Nottingham. McCann outpointed the tough Hungarian Beata Dudek over six rounds. McCann got the victory courtesy of a 60-55 scorecard.
Dudek was the ideal opponent for fight number three for the former UFC-ranked flyweight. The Hungarian has never been stopped, and soaked up everything McCann threw at her. Which was plenty.
McCann was made to work, and Dudek did find some success alongside the McCann onslaught. But that success was limited and didn’t come close to causing the upset. Dudek just couldn’t keep McCann off her long enough to build any real momentum.
Despite the somewhat one-sided nature of the fight, McCann has minor flaws to work on. Patience is one of them. The Liverpool fan favourite was aggressive all fight long, and at times, threatened to overwhelm Dudek. But McCann was probably a little to over eager at times, loading up with her shots instead of working her way into range. The former ABA champion is still a work in progress. But there is certainly plenty to work with.
At 35, McCann hasn’t got time to waste, and she has no intention of doing so. Fight number four will land in April, a hometown gig, and a drop down to bantamweight. McCann wants a British title before the end of the year, and on the evidence of her opening three outings, that looks more than a possibility.
