Stevie Morgan: “I am confident of beating Stephanie Han.”

Stevie Morgan: “I am confident of beating Stephanie Han.”

It was her big moment. A headline act in Florida against a living legend. But for Stevie Morgan, it didn’t quite go to plan. Amanda Serrano stopped her in two rounds, and the American had to go away and rebuild. And she did.

2025 was a year of rebuilding many things. Four fights. Four wins. “It feels good, Morgan told me over Zoom. “We have clawed our way back.”

Morgan has referenced coming back from the scars and the demons of the Serrano fight. A mind conflicted after reaching a stage she never thought she would reach, but also wishing she had done better against the legendary Puerto Rican. “Part of me is saying that after only two years being a pro, I am in the ring with Amanda Serrano, so I should be proud of myself,” Serrano relayed to me. “But it’s when you can’t do it again. There is no redo button. You can’t just fix it and do it again. It just lingers.”

“I don’t regret it because without it, I wouldn’t have known I was built to come back from it,” Morgan added. “I would never have known that I have the resilience had I not gone through that. I learned a lot about myself, and I learned that I won’t quit. So that was what I got out of it.

“I wasn’t supposed to make it this far anyway. I had my first amateur fight when I was 28 years old. There wasn’t any real expectation. If I take this sport seriously, I just wanted to see how far I could go. There was no I have to reach this goal, or that goal. It was just how far could I take it. There are always those questions: what if I had started earlier? I can say for sure now that I would have made it further.”

Stevie Morgan could have another big moment in her career in the coming months. Morgan is the mandatory challenger to the WBA lightweight title, currently held by Stephanie Han. Rather than sit and wait, in her first fight since July, Morgan will face the Brazilian Simone Aparecida da Silva on January 30th. “For us, it’s just to stay busy,” Morgan says of that fight. “We are mandatory for the Han fight, but they have until May to book it, I believe, so that is a long time to wait without fighting. By the time that fight happens, it could be a whole year before I am in the ring again, so I don’t want that to be an excuse.”

Stephanie Han recently defended her WBA bauble against Holly Holm, and Morgan should be next. But with talk about a Holm rematch doing the rounds, and the way boxing often works, nothing is ever guaranteed.

“The letter I received from the WBA is that they have to fight me next,” Morgan says of the situation. “The only reason they could fight Holly Holm was that they agreed I would be next. Can she bypass that? I am not sure. But based on the letter from the WBA, I am next. But I don’t know if they do a rematch with Holm, how that would work. Would I be first before the rematch? I am not exactly sure. All I know is that they said, I am next. So that’s all I have right now.”

Han is unbeaten in twelve fights, and the recent victory of Holm was the second successful defence of her WBA world title. Morgan is respectful of Han, but she is confident of beating her should the two meet later this year.

“I think she is a good fighter and a good champion. She just beat Holly Holm. Holly is a legend, and that win sealed her in as a champion. But I think she is a good fight for me. I am confident of beating Stephanie Han. We don’t just sit there and play patty cake. I would go in there to try to stop her. Can she take a shot? We have seen here get dropped in a previous fight. I don’t know if she will get back up if I hit her.”
