The FightPost British Female Fighter of the Year: Ellie Scotney

2025 was very much a year of progress for Ellie Scotney. In many ways, a year of movement. In and outside of the ring. The 27-year-old unified and unbeaten world super-bantamweight champion is this year’s FightPost British female fighter of the year.

Scotney started 2025 with Matchroom and two world titles to her name. The unbeaten Catford fighter ended the year signed to the Jake Paul revolution and with three world titles at her current weight.

The fighting year started in January in Nottingham, and a bloody fight with the then-unbeaten Mea Motu. Scotney defended her IBF and WBO world titles against the New Zealander, who was unbeaten in twenty fights when she made the pilgrimage to Nottingham in the depths of the British winter. I was ringside when Scotney overcame an accidental head clash and badly cut eye in the opening round to dominate her brave challenger. A comprehensive points victory, all three judges scored it to Scotney 99-91, improving the resume of the champion to 10-0. It was a case of skill over toughness.

But Scotney had to sit and wait for her next fight. A promotional free agent after her fight with Motu, Scotney took her time before signing with MVP. Jake Paul is making some serious financial investment in women’s boxing, like many, Scotney realises it is the place to be.

Scotney made her MVP promotional debut at Madison Square Garden in July against the WBC champion Yamileth Mercado. Scotney announced herself in her new promotional home with a thoroughly dominant victory over the tough Mexican. As ever, Scotney showed her class in adding a third world title to her collection.

The WBA bauble holder, Mayelli Flores, should be next for Scotney early in the new year, and with MVP looking to hold shows in the UK, the chance to go undisputed could be on home soil. Scotney will undoubtedly be a substantial betting favourite to complete the set at super-bantamweight. If, as expected, Scotney goes undisputed, a move up to featherweight is likely to follow.

Despite never remotely ever looking like losing a fight in her eleven-fight professional career, the talents of Ellie Scotney still go under the radar somewhat. But with the backing of Paul and his promotional powerhouse machine, 2026 should be where her profile rises significantly.
