Fights to Make in 2026: Gabriela Fundora vs. Jasmina Zapotoczna

Gabriela Fundora has been untouchable so far in her flyweight career. Unbeaten in seventeen fights, the 23-year-old undisputed flyweight champion of the world rules her division with a dominance that is perhaps unrivalled on the female side of the sport. Competitive fights are hard to come by for Fundora, but maybe Jasmina Zapotoczna has the style and the skills to offer her a challenge of much intrigue.

In two fights in 2025, Fundora has earned inside-the-distance victories over Marilyn Badilo Amaya and Alexas Kubicki that have highlighted her immense skills and dominance over her flyweight rivals. More than arguably, the American is a top-five pound-for-pound fighter, and at 23, Fundora will undoubtedly only get better. Almost certainly, the tougher tests that could threaten that unbeaten resume will lie outside of the flyweight ranks. But before the inevitable move elsewhere, Fundora could fight Zapotoczna at some point in 2026.

The European flyweight champion is on a nice little run of her own. In recent times, Zapotoczna has removed the talented duo Maiseyrose Courtney and Chloe Watson from the ranks of the unbeaten. The victory over Watson at the Royal Albert Hall in March was considered a minor upset, but Zapotoczna was always a live underdog in that fight on the Boxxer all-female card at that iconic venue. The split-decision victory over Watson earned Zapotoczna the European flyweight bauble, and in her only subsequent fight, she travelled to France to defend her title against Justine Lallemand. Zapotoczna left with her title still safely in her possession, and now is chasing world honours.

“I would love to challenge myself against Gabriela Fundora,” Zapotoczna told me a few days after her win in France. “Obviously, she is a top fighter and undisputed. It would be a massive challenge for me, but I would love to check my skills against hers.”

Zapotoczna has only lost to Shannon Ryan in eleven professional fights, and is now at her physical peak. At 31, Zapotoczna is seemingly ready for a crack at the world title. The wins over Courtney and Watson have gone under the radar somewhat, but she seems ready to come out of the shadows in 2026.

Fundora would start a significant betting favourite if she fights Zapotoczna in 2026, but that would be the case over virtually everyone in her division. But the highly-ranked Zapotoczna has a style that could cause the big-punching American at least some problems. Maybe even more than that. A fight between Gabriela Fundora and Jasmina Zapotoczna is a fight that should be made in the next twelve months.
