Ringside Report: Francesca Hennessy Moves to 7-0 in Derby

Francesca Hennessy danced her way to win number seven on Saturday night in Derby. Fabiana Bytyqi brought plenty of experience, but found Hennessy far too sharp for her.

The 21-year-old showed plenty of maturity in beating Bytyqi over ten one-sided rounds live on BBC Two. Hennessy won every single round and claimed her seventh victory in the pro ranks courtesy of a wide unanimous decision. All three scoring officials had her winning by scores of 100-90. In truth, they had an easy night’s work. The victory earned Hennessy the vacant WBC International bantamweight championship.

Hennessy mixed her work up well, ripping in shots to head and body all night long. Bytyqi was hard to hit clean, but the 29-year-old couldn’t get her own shots off. Bytyqi admirably stuck to her task, but her fate and the outcome were set from pretty early on. It might have become a little predictable at times, but that is no reflection on Hennessy, who was excellent and is developing into a real prospect with genuine major title aspirations.

The future looks incredibly bright for Francesca Hennessy. The young prospect wants to go undisputed at multiple weights. Time will tell if she reaches that kind of success. But she passed the toughest test of her career with relative ease, and the young prospect looks ready for more meaningful titles. Shannon Courtenay was called out post-fight. A sensible fight for both.
