Emma Dolan: “I’d like to get this IBF title, that’s the main focus at the moment, and then I want to unify my division.”
Sometimes talent isn’t enough. Even when it does shine through, it can trickle through a lot slower than fighters with far less talent who have a large and active social media following. The number of followers is seemingly more important than the skills inside a boxing ring. Emma Dolan is perhaps one of those fighters who has struggled for the limelight. Talented. Unbeaten with good domestic names on her record. Dolan should almost certainly be far better known than she currently is.
But hopefully, things are about to change. A world title shot looks imminent. Dolan is now the mandatory challenger for the IBF world super-flyweight title. The Mexican Irma Garcia is currently in possession of that IBF bauble, and talks are currently ongoing to secure Dolan her crack at a world title. “The IBF call has been a godsend,” Dolan told FightPost. “All the hard work is finally paying off, and it is a step closer to the end goal. “The negotiations are ongoing. If nothing is sorted by November 13th, it will then go to purse bids.”
“Garcia is hard and tough,” Dolan adds in reference to her next opponent. “She is a come-forward fighter, she sits into her legs and commits to her shots.”
Dolan hasn’t been seen since her impressive win over Lauren Parker in defence of her British and Commonwealth super-flyweight titles. It’s been a frustrating period for the unbeaten fighter, but she is reflective of her situation. “It was a great win over Lauren back in April. I would have liked another fight in the summer, but that’s women’s boxing at the moment. I don’t cry about it. I’m enjoying my journey and I back myself all the way, the only way is up, and I’ll bring a world title back to the UK.”
Emma Dolan, despite the somewhat limited action of late, has time on her side. At 27, the peak is still ahead of her. “I’ve got many good years ahead of me, and I want to put them to good use and box regularly. I’d like to get this IBF title, that’s the main focus at the moment, and then I want to unify my division.”
