World-Class: Tysie Gallagher Outpoints Ellie Hellewell In Sheffield
Tysie Gallagher returned to the ring in some style on Saturday night in Sheffield. The Luton fighter had her first fight in over a year, and she showed no signs of ring rust in outpointing the previously unbeaten Ellie Hellewell to regain her British and Commonwealth super-bantamweight titles over ten good rounds.
It was a masterclass of a performance from the stylish Gallagher. After a somewhat slow start, Gallagher found her range in the 3rd round to take control of the fight after a tight opening two rounds. All of a sudden, a difficult fight on paper started to look anything but in reality. Gallagher won wide on the cards by scores of 98-93, 97-93, and 97-94. I had it 7-3 in rounds to Gallagher.
Hellewell (7-1) was anything but disgraced and will learn from her first professional defeat, but after a promising start, she seemed to run out of ideas and became a little too one-dimensional as the rounds ticked by. But Hellewell can still be extremely proud of her performance, and she still has a bright future ahead of her and will undoubtedly come again.
Tysie Gallagher (10-2) is perhaps one of the most underrated fighters in the sport, but yet again, she demonstrated just how good she is. Gallagher danced and dazzled her way to a commanding points victory over a fighter who will surely win titles herself in the coming years. Gallagher might still be going under the radar, but she is world-class, and winning a world title can’t be ruled out. At 27, her peak is still ahead of her.
If, as expected, Ellie Scotney goes undisputed later this year and then moves up to featherweight, the world titles will splinter, and Gallagher will surely be in the running to fight for one of the vacant titles at some point in 2026. Gallagher is a class act who deserves far more credit than she currently gets.
