Alexas Kubicki: “I have been given the opportunity to become the undisputed world flyweight champion.”
At just 22, Alexas Kubicki will get the chance of a lifetime this weekend when she attempts to win the undisputed world flyweight championship when she takes on the formidable and undefeated Gabriela Fundora in California.

The Canadian will head to Fantasy Springs Casino, Indio, hoping to inflict the first defeat on Fundora’s impressive and so-far untouched resume. A tough ask for any current active flyweight, but Kubicki can’t wait for what lies ahead.
“I’m very excited,” Kubicki told FightPost. “It’s an incredible feeling to have my hard work recognised on the world stage. This weekend, I have been given the opportunity to become the undisputed world flyweight champion, and I can’t wait to step into the ring and seize the opportunity. On top of that, I’m looking forward to adding a few more belts to my collection.”
The opportunity to fight Fundora has come at relatively late notice after the original opponent, Ayelén Granadino, withdrew and was replaced by Kubicki. “No hesitation at all,” Kubicki said when I asked if she had any hesitation in accepting the incredibly late call. “We had just come off a great five-week sparring camp with the European flyweight champion Jasmina Zapotoczna, and beyond that, we’ve been preparing for this moment for the past three years. We always stay in shape and ready to fight. You never know when an opportunity will come, and now the time is here.”
Despite the late call-up and the seemingly insurmountable odds, Kubicki heads into the fight confident of causing the big upset. “Dramatically,” Kubicki answers when I ask her how she wins. “Winning the undisputed flyweight title shows the world that I am the best and puts every competitor on notice. There’s a new champion here ready to reign. Fundora has been a great champion, but I’m ready to be the contender who puts the first loss on her record and end that winning streak.
“We’ll be disciplined in executing our game plan and stepping in at peak condition. That being said, make sure to tune in and watch me become the next undisputed world champion.”
Fundora, unbeaten in sixteen fights, is 1/33 to retain her undisputed world flyweight baubles. Everything points to Alexas Kubicki suffering her second career defeat. But the Canadian has nothing to lose and heads into the fight of her life full of confidence. The odds of the upset might be remote, but Kubicki sees it differently. Sometimes, belief can make all the difference.
