Stevie Morgan: “The world title is the ultimate goal.”

Stevie Morgan had a brief moment in the bright lights last year. A date with one of the greatest female fighters of all time, that catapulted her right into the mainstream spotlight. The fight with Amanda Serrano last July didn’t go her way. But Morgan is fiercely determined that night won’t be the highlight of her career.

The super-lightweight contender has won two fights since the Puerto Rican stopped her inside two rounds in their high-profile fight last year in Tampa, Florida. 2025 has started well for Stevie Morgan. A points win over Marisa Joana Portillo and a first-round stoppage over Julia Cassiani last time out have put that fight with Serrano in the rear-view mirror. Morgan seemingly fully intends to stay active throughout the remainder of this year.

Morgan makes her third appearance of 2025 this coming weekend when she takes on the experienced Colombian Liliana Palmera in Medellin, with the home fighter defending her WBC Latin-American title over ten rounds against Morgan. “I am looking to gain the experience of being in the ring with a two-time former world champion,” Morgan says of what she wants to get out of her fight this weekend. “I am hoping to get some good rounds under my belt this fight as well. Beating her will put me back into title contention.”

The former college basketball player started her boxing journey in 2008. It is a sport that Morgan says has given her freedom and confidence. It is that confidence that has Morgan firmly believing that she will emulate her favourite fighter, Salvador Sanchez, in becoming a world champion.

“The world title is the ultimate goal,” Morgan says. “My team has a plan, but first, I have to get past this fight. But by this time next year, I hope to already be holding or challenging for a world title in the super-lightweight division.”
