Ringside Report: Karriss Artingstall Drops & Outpoints Raven Chapman To Claim The British Featherweight Title

Karriss Artingstall impressively reannounced herself on Friday night with a dominant and unanimous points victory over Raven Chapman to become the inaugural British featherweight champion on the latest Boxxer all-female extravaganza.

Artingstall returned to the ring for the first time since January of last year and looked intent on making up for lost with her unanimous decision victory over a tough Chapman. The Macclesfield fighter can consider her performance at the Royal Albert Hall, statement made.

The 2020 Olympic bronze medallist, with old amateur foe and future professional opponent Skye Nicolson at ringside working for Sky Sports, got off to a dream start dropping Chapman right at the end of the second round with a beautiful left hand. A nightmare beginning for Chapman who was looking to rebound after suffering her first professional reversal at the hands of Nicolson last time out.

Chapman did her best to turn the fight back in her favour, and she certainly landed enough hard shots of her own to make for an entertaining fight. But Artingstall was always a few steps ahead of her, as she repeated her victory in the amateur ranks.

The scores of 98-91, 97-92, and 96-93 were difficult to argue with as Chapman has gone from unbeaten world title contender to a two-fight losing skid. But losing to perhaps the best two featherweights in the world is no disgrace. It will be interesting to see what she does next.

In moving to 7-0, and after a difficult 2024, Artingstall can now look ahead with much glee. Nicolson defends her WBC world featherweight title later this month against the American Tiara Brown. The Australian is favoured to turn back the challenge of Brown, and a future fight with Artingstall is a natural with a built-in story line. It’s an easy sell, and for different reasons, a fight that both need.
