Ringside Report: Lauren Price Beats Natasha Jonas On Points At The Royal Albert Hall
The pattern of the fight was set in the very seconds of the fight. A night where perhaps we knew pretty quickly who would win.
Lauren Price comprehensively outpointed Natasha Jonas to crown herself a unified world welterweight champion. The victory over Jonas makes her the WBC, WBA, and IBF champion. Only the WBO bauble, currently held by Mikaela Mayer, is missing from the Lauren Price collection. All three judges gave it to Price by scores of a little too close 98-93 and more reflective scores of 100-90 and 98-92. I could only give Jonas one round. Two at the most. Price had size, speed, and freshness on her side. Jonas never stopped trying to stem the tide. But Price always looked the likely winner. In truth, the only winner.

Price was just too quick for Jonas. The difference in hand and foot speed was apparent from the opening segments. Jonas had pockets of success, but nowhere near enough. There were too many single punches that often fell short of the mark. A left hook from Jonas seemed to register somewhat in the 5th, and the Liverpool fighter found more success in the 10th. But it was too little too late. Jonas admitted in the post-fight interview that Price just beat her to the punch. Which was the story of the fight.
Lauren Price was beyond impressive, and she will undoubtedly take some beating. Jonas was confident of upsetting the odds once again but conceded that the speed and power of Price surprised her. You could argue it was one fight too many for the two-weight world champion. But that would also be disrespectful to Price.
Price will now look to fight the winner of the rematch between Mayer and Sandy Ryan for undisputed status. Jonas might now say enough is enough, and walk away from the sport after a long and glorious career.
The second Boxxer all-female show ended with mutual respect from the two headliners. Two class acts that will now go in completely different directions.
