Ringside Report: Jasmina Zapotoczna Shocks Chloe Watson At The Royal Albert Hall
Jasmina Zapotoczna defied the odds on Friday night to defeat the previously unbeaten Chloe Watson at the Royal Albert Hall and, in the process, claim the European flyweight title.
The judges were split, but Zapotoczna was the deserved winner in a close competitive fight. Zapotoczna edged it on the cards by scores of
93-97, 96-95, 96-95. The 97-93 card for Watson looked more than a touch off. I had Zapotoczna winning 6-4 in rounds. I thought she controlled enough of the rounds with her movement to deservedly take the decision and that European bauble off the talented Watson.
Watson struggled to close the distance. Zapotoczna picked off the ever-advancing Watson off quite impressively at times. The Birkenhead fighter had success, but I thought Zapotoczna just had a little more of it. Watson will come again and shouldn’t be written off because of one defeat.
But Zapotoczna gets the second big win of her career after taking away the unbeaten record from Maisey Rose Courtney last year. A talented fighter, who was always good value as the betting underdog. I think the days of Jasmina Zapotoczna being overlooked are now most definitely over.
