Ringside Report: Caroline Dubois Retains Her WBC World Lightweight Title Via Majority Decision Over The Tough Bo Mi Re Shin

Caroline Dubois survived the toughest test of her career to date and some distinctly uncomfortable moments in the final two rounds to retain her WBC world lightweight title against the incredibly tough South Korean
Bo Mi Re Shin at the Royal Albert Hall on Friday night.

The latest Boxxer all-female extravaganza came to life as Dubois came through those moments to retain her WBO bauble by a majority decision. One judge somehow rendered a scorecard of 95-95, but the two remaining scoring officials added a tough of realism with their more realistic and accurate cards of 98-93 and 98-92. It was difficult to argue with either.

Bo Mi Re Shin has a close defeat on her resume to Delfine Persoon, and she offered much resemblance to her former opponent.

Dubois claims she was fighting a virus in the last week, and the way she suddenly faded in the final two rounds do add some credence to that. Dubois hit the South Korean with everything, but she couldn’t budge the super tough opposition in front of her. And in the final two rounds, the seismic upset suddenly looked on.

Dubois was fighting exhaustion and appeared hurt in the 9th round, and Bo Mi Re Shin suddenly found hope. The WBC top ranked contender emptied the tank, sensing an unlikely victory within her grasp. But Dubois passed her own gut check and survived to fight another day. Although she will be extremely grateful that it wasn’t a 12-round contest. Dubois looked out on her feet after ten hard rounds.

It was a tough night at the office, but Dubois will learn from it. A gut check passed. But maybe a touch of reality hit her also. Dubois still might be the best lightweight on the planet. But she might not have it all her own way proving it. Bo Mi Re Shin should come again. Even in defeat, she leaves the Royal Albert Hall a winner.
