Olivia-Grace Holden: “A win or a loss doesn’t matter to me. I just want to keep pushing myself to be the best I can.”

Olivia-Grace Holden is another fighter on the never-ending production line that should guarantee the future of women’s boxing. A life in boxing that started when she was only six. A local boxing gym in her native Middlesbrough was the first step. A decision that has served her extremely well.

The 17-year-old has been surrounded by sport her whole life. But it is boxing that has fully consumed her. “I love the adrenaline and that fighting feeling,” Holden told FightPost. “I like to challenge myself, and I always want more.”

Holden had her first fight at a very early age. “I had my first bout when I was 10, and I was very excited to get started with my journey. I wasn’t very nervous. I was mostly excited and eager. I’ve now had over twenty bouts. I would like to get all the experience I can. A win or a loss doesn’t matter to me. I just want to keep pushing myself to be the best I can.”

A multitude of titles have already come for the young prospect. A resume that has already attracted the interest of the England selectors. Something that the North East fighter describes as the highlight of her career.

“The hardest part of boxing is definitely the training,” Holden relayed to me. “You always need to be doing more than your opponent to win. I’m a part of the DISE Boxing Academy in college. So I’m training all day in college as well as at my local club and all the extra training that I do myself. It’s tough, but you don’t win by being lazy. The mindset is also tough. You can’t go into a fight 99%. You always need to be 100% in what you’re doing.”

“I want to be a National Champion,” Holden says of what her short-term goal is. But Holden is already looking ahead. “I’d love to turn professional at some point when the time is right. I’m still learning and improving all the time, so it’s definitely a possibility.” Holden also referenced her desire to be a world champion in the future. Hard work, talent, and ambition always go well together. Olivia-Grace Holden seemingly has everything that she needs.
