Chloe Dunn: “My long-term goals are going to the Olympics and boxing for GB, then turning pro and winning a world title.”
The Sheffield-born Chloe Dunn already has two National titles to her name. A young starlet who is aiming high. Very high.
At just 15, Dunn is only just getting started. But already, her resume is one of success. And potential. Twenty-one fights in. Numerous titles already litter her record. “I’ve won two National titles, one Junior Cadet National Championship, and a NABGC National title. I am also a three-time Yorkshire Champion,” Dunn told me of her past achievements. Trust me, there is more.
“I had a very good upbringing and have always been very close to my family,” the Sheffield fighter told me of her formative years. “As a kid, I always tried out different sports like gymnastics, swimming, and athletics. But boxing was the one that stuck with me.”
“I started boxing because my auntie brought me and my sister and her kids to a local boxing gym just to try it out and I felt at home from the start,” Dunn says of how boxing came into her life. “I didn’t end up staying at that gym, but then when I moved to Sheffield City, that’s when I started improving, and I had my first bouts there.”
It always fascinates me why fighters fight. What they get out of a sport that is almost certainly the hardest game of all. Like many, Chloe Dunn gets plenty out of her sport of choice. “With boxing, it’s all about the community, and I love how now I’m a part of this big community where everyone knows everyone and respects everyone. Boxing gives me a lot of confidence and gives me motivation every day to be able to look forward to something, and that is either an upcoming fight or sparring or even just simply my training in the evening.”
“I do remember my first bout it was in Liverpool with a club called JC’s and I boxed a really tall girl and didn’t get the win, but it didn’t stop me at all,” Dunn added detail of her first-ever ring walk. A losing debut that was never going to deter her.
Even at 15, there is already plenty to celebrate in the career of Dunn. But for the Yorkshire fighter, a few moments stand out.
“The highlight of my career is definitely winning my first National title in the juniors in March last year. I was the first female in my club to ever win a National title, so it meant everything to me. Another highlight of my career is going to America last year in September and being a part of an international tournament boxing a girl who went to the junior Olympics and coming home with a bronze, and being able to beat her confidently.”
Even for someone so young, Chloe Dunn already has her goals set for the short and long term. Fleeting thoughts of turning professional somewhere in the future. But standing on top of the Olympic podium is already a dream.
“My short-term goals are to win the upcoming Junior Open National title and be able to go to the Europeans and also to box for England. I would love to turn professional, but first, I want to make a big name for myself in the amateurs and then turn over to my professional career. My long-term goals are going to the Olympics and boxing for GB, then turning pro and winning a world title.”
