Sylwia Doligala: “Boxing shows me that anything and everything is possible.”
After eight professional fights, Sylwia Doligala has landed the biggest fight of her career to date. On the 8th March, Doligala will fight Charlotte Powell in Oldham with the Central Area super-flyweight title on the line. “I am very excited about this fight,” Doligala told FightPost. “It’s my first title fight and a big step in my career. It is a 50/50 fight, and I’m really looking forward to it. Winning this fight would put me higher up the rankings and will hopefully allow me to be in the mix with the girls for even bigger titles.”

Doligala hopes that her fight against Powell next month will propel her more into the boxing mainstream. Life on the small hall circuit is extremely hard, Doligala accepts. “It is much harder to be fighting on the smaller shows, as we have to sell enough tickets to cover all the costs just to be able to fight on those shows. So, if you do not have the following or the sponsors, it might not be possible at all. So, I am grateful to have great sponsors on board, who support me in my career and people that come and support me. It does mean a lot, especially during this early stage of my career.”
With a strong team behind her, Doligala is leaving all the scouting on Charlotte Powell to her inner circle, with the Wakefield-based fighter just focusing on herself in the lead-up to the biggest fight of her life. “I don’t really have any thoughts about my opponent. I haven’t seen her fight. I leave it for my team to study my opponent. They are my eyes, and my job is to get in the ring and get the job done. I never underestimate any fighter. I believe it is a 50/50 fight, but I also believe I have more in me and the belt is going with me back to Yorkshire.”
The entry into the world of boxing came purely by accident. “It’s a funny story because me and my friend were meant to go to ladies’ boxing class, but we walked into the gym at the wrong time and it was a boxing training session at that time,” Doligala says of how she came into boxing. “The coach said we can stay and see, so we did, and we went back for another class and another, and fell in love with that sport and I have been in it for the past nine years now.
“Boxing gives me a dream which I work towards to being a better version of myself. It challenges me every day and in every single training session. Boxing shows me that anything and everything is possible. It allows me to meet fantastic people and take part in amazing events. Boxing is my big passion, I have been doing it for nine years now, and hopefully, we are now on to bigger fights. I think like every boxer, the biggest dream is to get to world level and box the best girls.”
Sylwia Doligala, who spars regularly with the likes of Nicola Hopewell and Jasmina Zapotoczna, has five wins in her eight professional fights. The only defeat on her resume came in her professional debut in 2019. She has remained unbeaten since that loss to Mandy Cortis. A couple of draws along the way make up the rest of her record. But on March 8th at the Oldham Leisure Centre, Doligala gets the opportunity to take her career to another level.
