Caitlyn Wise: “Boxing has changed my life so much.”
Caitlyn Wise claimed yet another National Title over the weekend. The 17-year-old is now a four-time National Champion. She is unlikely to stop there.
“It feels amazing to win another title,” Wise told me. “This is my 4th National Title, and I’m extremely happy with my performances over both days. I’m also super proud of myself.”
I first spoke to Caitlyn Wise late last year after she had returned from America the World U19 Champion. A victory that has given her even more self-belief. “By winning the world title, it has definitely boosted my confidence for all these other competitions. I feel a lot stronger mentally and physically to get in the ring and do what I do best.”
2024 was some year for Wise. A defeat in the European Championships started the year, but that famous win in Colorado ended it. A year where Wise can see and feel the improvements in her boxing.
“I can see how much I’ve improved over the last year,” Wise relayed to FightPost. “By losing in the Europeans that took place at the start of last year, from then I’ve been improving all the time. By going to Brandenburg and winning that competition and then moving on to the World Championships, which was another successful tournament, so I can definitely see the improvements in my boxing from the Europeans up to the World Championships. My style of boxing is a lot more controlled now, and I use my height and range to my advantage.
“When I first started boxing, I just did it as a hobby and to keep fit. But once I started competing I always knew I could win a National Title. But if I was told that later on down the line, that I would be winning multiple National Titles, European medals, and also being the world number one, I wouldn’t have believed it.”
The Worcester fighter, who started her boxing journey when she was only ten, is grateful for what her sport has given her. “Boxing has changed my life so much, I love what I do and I have so much passion for it. My dreams are to box for GB and then go to the Commonwealth Games and then on to the Olympics. After my amateur career is done, I want to win a world title in the pro game, but I want to get as much success out of my amateur career first.”
Despite achieving plenty already, the ambitious Caitlyn Wise is already thinking of more. “Hopefully I’ll get selected for England and be picked to box in the Europeans,” Wise says of what potentially could be next for her. “Also, any other tournaments that take place this year like the Haringey, Brandenburg, and any others that may pop up.”
