Ella Lonsdale: “It feels good to win another National Title.”
“It feels good to win another National Title in my last year as a Youth. I am now a five-time National Champion,” the words of the North-East fighter Ella Lonsdale after another tournament and another title.
The latest National Title was secured with an impressively quick first-round stoppage. “It’s my quickest stoppage to date,” Lonsdale says of her latest victory. “It does feel good getting a stoppage. But at the same time, when you train so much, sometimes it is good to go a few more rounds to get some more experience.”
Ella Lonsdale is on some roll. An incredible upward trajectory that shows no immediate signs of slowing down. Last year, she went to America and came home the U19 Youth World Boxing Champion. “It’s been amazing since winning the world title and all the publicity I have had,” Lonsdale told FightPost. “It still hasn’t sunk in to think I have a world title at my age. I don’t praise myself too much for what I have achieved so far. I just train for what’s next.”
Lonsdale, who will turn 18 this year, has a golden future ahead of her. Her latest title has already opened the door for more. “On winning yesterday, I received a letter to represent England for the Tri-Nations in June. Hopefully, I will then get selected for the Europeans later in the year and any other competitions for me to compete in.”
Ella Lonsdale is chasing more gold on the world stage. She also wants to make the grade for GB Boxing. “I want to go as far as I can. I want to try as get as much experience as I can and win as many titles as I can. I want to get on Team GB and then go to the Olympics,” Lonsdale told me in November. The 17-year-old, who says boxing is the best thing that’s ever happened to her, could play a vital role in safeguarding the future of her side of the sport. Women’s boxing needs new stars to take the sport to the next level. Ella Lonsdale could be that star.
