Emma Dolan vs. Lauren Parker: The Perfect Fight For The Boxxer All-Female Card At The Royal Albert Hall
Boxing will make a welcomed and unique return to the Royal Albert Hall in March. A much-needed Boxxer relaunch of women’s boxing. A night that will be headlined by Natasha Jonas and Lauren Price. A big domestic unification showdown with three world welterweight titles on the line.
Speculation and rumours will be rife about what fighters and fights will grace the undercard. The boxing return of Savannah Marshall looks likely. Karriss Artingstall is another fighter who will probably relaunch her career on the same Friday night show. The WBC world lightweight champion Caroline Dubois, you would suspect, is another fighter nailed on to feature on the card. Dubois will almost certainly be looking for a big name fitting of the occasion.
There are, in truth, a plethora of good fights to put on the latest Boxxer all-female extravaganza. Chloe Watson, the European flyweight champion, has the likes of the Commonwealth bauble holder Nicola Hopewell and Jasmina Zapotoczna for worthwhile competition.
If it’s a brand new relaunch for the female side of the sport, that should mean it’s a showcase for the up-and-coming talent in the sport. We don’t need to see everyone we have seen previously. Give the massive platform to the stars of the future. The two fighting sisters Shona and Harli Whitwell. The former two-time National Champion Hannah Robinson. The unbeaten Midlands featherweight title-holder Sian O’Toole. All the above and others would only enhance what would follow on the main card. Shining a light on the new generation can only be a good thing.
But there is one fight that does seem a natural fit for the card on March 7th. Emma Dolan, the British and Commonwealth super-flyweight champion, and Lauren Parker, the former European champion, could be one of those fights that has the potential to steal the entire show and even outshine that highly intriguing headline fight between two former Olympians.
Dolan has taken away the unbeaten records from fellow prospects Nicola Hopewell and Shannon Ryan, and those impressive wins should have launched her career onto a bigger stage. It hasn’t quite happened yet for Dolan, but a fight with Parker at the Royal Albert Hall would do exactly that. The winner moves into serious world title consideration.
Parker is one of those crowd-pleasing fighters that has somehow gone under the radar despite the excitement that she brings. Make no mistake, Parker wouldn’t be out of place in that grand ironic old building. There have been previous attempts to get Dolan and Parker together inside a boxing ring. But March 7th would be the date that the fight makes the most sense. A big fight deserves the big platform. An easy fight to make. And one that should be made.
