Katie Taylor vs. Chantelle Cameron: A Trilogy Far Too Good To Waste
A change of trainer, and it would appear we have a change of mindset also for Chantelle Cameron.
There is something different about Cameron in recent times. An edge to her demeanour. And her words. A fighter seemingly taking charge of her career. In truth, she had to.

Katie Taylor and Cameron went to war on two occasions in 2023, two nights in Dublin that will live long in the memory, and the Northampton fighter is determined that she will get a third fight with the Irish superstar on May 25th, again in Dublin.
It did seem as though her wishes wouldn’t be granted earlier this week when she posted the following on her various social media accounts.
“I have agreed to a massive purse reduction to make this fight happen financially, as this is what I was told was the hold-up from the fight being agreed. I wanted to create my own legacy. The trilogy not happening is down to Katie and her team, not me.”
If Cameron is to be believed, the third fight is what Matchroom and DAZN want next over Taylor making a routine mandatory defence of her undisputed world super-lightweight baubles. The only obstacle in making the trilogy, according to Cameron, is Taylor and her team.
Despite her social media interactions earlier this week, Cameron certainly doesn’t appear to be giving up on securing another meeting with the fighter who are tied at one win apiece in their own personal rivalry. And why should she.
It does seem to be the natural fight to make next. With two incredible fights behind them, both fighters need a decider. Their sport also. Trilogies don’t come along very often. And this one is far too good waste. A rivalry with a little bit of an edge. Maybe something a little more. It’s most definitely a case of unfinished business.
Cameron has stated that she has accepted everything for the fight. A financial offer that is significantly lower than what she earned previously. A statement of intent, a telling sign that money isn’t the motivation for a third fight. Revenge and legacy the prime reason for seeking another showdown with Taylor. The words of Cameron do indicate that the only reason a third fight won’t happen will be down to the Taylor inner circle.
After suffering the first defeat of her professional career to Cameron last May, Taylor got her revenge in November in the contractually mandated rematch, and Cameron is in no mood to leave their series on a defeat.
There is something different about Cameron of late. The decision to leave long-time trainer Jamie Moore for Grant Smith, was a painfully difficult decision, but one Cameron felt she needed to take, so she can take her career to another level. There is no blame being put on Moore for her loss to Taylor. Just a change of scenery that Cameron hopes will give her final years in the sport a new lease of life. A fighter who is leaving nothing to chance as she enters the closing few chapters of her career.
Cameron is still incredibly ambitious, and has already stated her interest in sharing a ring with the likes of Natasha Jonas and Mikaela Mayer. But the immediate target is that third fight with Katie Taylor. If boxing works like it should, Cameron should get her wish granted. With money left on the table, why let it go? Every story needs that closing chapter. The hope is that Taylor and Cameron get theirs.
