Chantelle Cameron: “Jamie Moore and Nigel Travis will always have a special place in my heart. We have made some truly incredible memories together.”

Chantelle Cameron & Jamie Moore Go Their Separate Ways

The news broke earlier today that Chantelle Cameron and Jamie Moore have gone their separate ways.

FightPost is of the understanding that the final decision was made two weeks ago, and the split would have happened even if Cameron had won her rematch with Katie Taylor last November. The split is amicable, and they remain good friends.

“I want to place on record my thanks and gratitude to Jamie Moore and Nigel Travis for everything they have done for me in my career. We have had an amazing run together, and I will always be grateful to them both. I love them both to pieces. But I just feel that for a number of reasons, I need to make a few changes for the benefit of my career going forward, just to freshen things up a little. I will now be trained by Grant Smith in Sheffield and I am excited for what lies ahead. But Jamie and Nigel will always have a special place in my heart. We have made some truly incredible memories together.”

There are logistical reasons for the change, and the reasons for the split have nothing to do with blame on either side for Cameron losing to Taylor in Dublin last November. The hook-up with Smith will mean Cameron can do her regular boxing training and her strength and conditioning in one place and will enable the Northampton fighter to greatly reduce the amount of travelling time she has to do on a daily basis.

Cameron and Moore have had an incredible run together and they shared that emotional night in Ireland last May when Cameron went to the lion’s den to defeat Taylor on her long-awaited homecoming and inflict the first defeat on the resume of the Irish superstar. Cameron was inspired that night to defend her undisputed world super-lightweight titles and while Taylor gained her revenge in the return fight six months later, it was another unforgettable night and another Fight of the Year contender. A third fight could be even better.

Cameron and Katie Taylor are currently locked in talks for their trilogy fight, which is rumoured to take place on May 25th, again at the 3Arena in Dublin if a deal can be finalised in the coming weeks.
