Harli Whitwell Impressively Moves to 4-0

Harli Whitwell ended seven months of frustration by impressively stopping the Polish import Angelika Oles in the sixth and final round of their fight in Brentwood on Saturday night on a Top Tier Boxing promoted show.

The stoppage when the fight was nearing its conclusion was perhaps a little harsh on Oles, but Whitwell had threatened the early finish in virtually every round, especially in the third stanza when the bell almost certainly saved Oles from the early finish.

Whitwell, a former amateur star, impressed immensely in moving to 4-0, and the unbeaten super-featherweight fighter has the look of a serious prospect. The right hand and her body shots, especially caught the eye in a fight where she seemed to adapt as the fight progressed. Whitwell was a little to intent on forcing the stoppage and was caught a little too easily in the second round as a result, but she made the adjustments needed from that round on. Oles was oozing blood from her nose from the early stages but was incredibly brave and soaked up plenty from the St. Ives hopeful who has the look of an early Mikaela Mayer about her.

The seven month inactivity through injury and fights falling through at the last minute stalled her progress somewhat through 2023, but her aims of titles look more than realistic. By the end of 2024, this observer will be surprised if Whitwell leaves the year without a title to her name.
