Ringside Report: Caroline Dubois Retains IBO Lightweight Title

There will be some who would have demanded a one-sided emphatically quick stoppage victory for Caroline Dubois on Saturday night in London as some sort of symbol for her perceived superstar status, but the ten hard rounds Dubois got in against the incredibly tough Miranda Reyes will serve her much better going forward.

Dubois retained her IBO lightweight title by unanimously agreed scorecards of 100-90. Reyes made her work for her victory despite the overwhelming nature of the scorecards, and had pockets of success of her own, especially in the 4th round, before Dubois found another gear or two from that point on.

Reyes never looked remotely like getting stopped, despite taking numerous heavy shots from her classy opponent. And Reyes came with enough ambition of her own to give Dubois a more than decent workout and valuable learning rounds in the process.

Dubois (9-0) marches on, hopefully, to a shot at the vacant IBF world lightweight title in her next fight. The Shane McGuigan-trained fighter is only 23, and still very much in the learning phase, and does get caught a little too easily at times. But the talent and potential are obvious. Dubois is surely a world champion in waiting.
