Natasha Jonas Mikaela Mayer & Jane Couch
Jane Couch, a fighter who every single British boxer owes a debt of gratitude to, has seemingly been a forgotten figure in the rise of women’s boxing over the last few years. There have been multiple missed opportunities to involve her in the evolution of her sport. The all-female card in 2022, Couch, was nowhere to be seen. The long-awaited introduction of British female title the following year, Couch was again missing. But this Saturday night in Liverpool, Couch will finally get a much-needed modern-day recognition.

Couch will walk Natasha Jonas out in front of her hometown fans as ‘Miss GB’ defends her IBF world welterweight title against the American Mikaela Mayer. A fitting tribute for a Hall of Fame fighter from someone who will surely follow Couch into the International Boxing Hall of Fame once the gloves are finally laid to rest.
Jonas knows the importance of Couch to her sport. And history will be kind to her also. But her opponent on Saturday night will leave a lasting legacy as well. Jonas and Mayer have both made important contributions to their side of the sport. Two former Olympians. Both are unified world champions. Jonas and Mayer are an absolute credit to their sport. But the added touch of Jane Couch to the proceedings adds a nice little additional shower of tinsel to the show. And class.
