Former Amateur Star Kaye Scott Makes Her Professional Debut on November 25th

It has, in many ways, been a long time coming for the elite Australian amateur star Kaye Scott to enter the world of professional boxing.

Scott medalled at two Commonwealth Games and won a silver medal at the World Amateur Championships in 2016, and she repeated her achievements on the world stage earlier this year.

But the talented Australian will now enter a new world later this month when she faces Connie Chan for the Australasian middleweight title.

Chan is 3-5 in her professional career with high-profile defeats to Kate McClaren and Tayla Harris, but Chan will hope that she can change her own career trajectory with an upset win over the decorated and extremely ambitious Scott. But based on everything we know, the task looks far too big for Chan.

At 39, Scott is turning professional at a relatively late age, but in March at the World Championships, she proved that she was still at the height of her powers. That silver medal showed she was still very much a world-class fighter. Scott thinks her peak is still to come. A career that started in 2010 appears to have a few more chapters yet to write.

Scott won’t want to waste too much time, and fighting in and around the middleweight ranks should mean the former amateur star is moved rapidly as a professional. The higher weight categories are a little thin on talent at the top end of those divisions, and Scott will likely be advanced incredibly quickly as a result. The expectation is that Scott will eventually settle in the welterweight or super-welterweight ranks.

There are dreams of eventually becoming a firefighter, but Scott will look to hit the ground running as a professional boxer. There was also a dream of representing her country in an Olympic Games, which sadly didn’t become a reality and when hopes of making Paris 2024 ended in disappointment and more earlier this year, Scott decided there was nothing left for her in the unpaid code. In truth, the decision to turn professional was made for her.

But you suspect in her new world, there is every chance Kaye Scott could sign out her boxing career with a world title to her name. November 25th could just be the beginning of the road that could lead to the pinnacle of her sport. Scott is a more than welcome addition to the professional roster. Gold might have eluded Kaye Scott as an amateur. There is every chance it won’t as a professional.
