Rianna Doforo: A Future Superstar in Boxing?

Rianna Doforo: A Future Superstar in Boxing?

I want to be a multi-weight undisputed world champion, and I believe that I can achieve that.” Rianna Doforo was only 14 when she told FightPost of her lofty ambitions last December. Those dreams of multiple world titles are very much in the future, but Doforo, who will likely campaign in and around the super-bantamweight division, will make her professional debut. November 9th could be the start of something very special indeed.

Doforo had an early background of singing in a choir, but there are promising signs that she will hit the right notes as a boxer also. The Stefy Bull-trained fighter, a partnership that started with a one-on-one session with a then-injured Terri Harper a few years ago, can already call herself a two-time National Champion in the amateur ranks. As a professional, the only question might be, is how many titles she will win as a professional. Bull has already labelled her a potential all-time great and thinks that even at 15, his fighter is already good enough to beat some of the current world champions. Bull firmly believes he has a future superstar on his hands. Doforo has already spent time in the Mayweather Gym in Las Vegas and in the Doncaster Gym that she calls home, she has the likes of Harper and Raven Chapman for company. Doforo couldn’t wish for a better learning residency.

As an amateur, Doforo was hard to match, “When I was in my old gym, we tried fifteen different gyms for an opponent for one of our club shows, and they all said no. It’s frustrating because you are not learning anything,” Doforo told this outlet last year which is part of the motivation for turning pro so early instead of hanging around the amateurs a little bit longer. She believes her style is far more suited to the professional game and she can get the world-class rounds as a learning professional. Doforo will need to be matched carefully, the talent and all that promise is one thing. But she is still only 15. Doforo has time. There is no need to rush her.

As a professional, the aim is to have three fights a year until she turns 18 and is then allowed to fight as a professional in the UK. If everything goes to plan, in a couple of years, Stefy Bull might be right. He may very well have another potential world champion on his hands. Doforo told FightPost that she wants her name to go down in history. If the confidence of fighter and trainer is to be believed, Rianna Doforo could be the future of her sport.
