Ringside Report: Rhiannon Dixon Wins The European Title
Rhiannon Dixon ticked many boxes tonight at the Wembley Arena. The unbeaten Warrington fighter claimed the vacant European lightweight title in impressive style by beating the incredibly tough former world title challenger Katherina Thanderz. Dixon was excellent and served up the best performance of her career against her toughest opponent to date.
All three judges gave Dixon every round, and that was a true reflection of her dominance. The scores of 100-90 in no way flattered Dixon. The extremely talented southpaw will benefit from going ten rounds at such a frantic pace. Another piece of her fighting development firmly secured. Dixon proved tonight that she won’t be lacking in the stamina department.
The Norwegian deserves immense credit for staying the course. Dixon threatened the finish at times, especially in the 10th and final round, when she landed repeated heavy shots to head and body. The new European champion is a wicked body puncher, and Thanderz visibly tightened her guard around the body from the 3rd round onwards. Dixon was impressive throughout, and her in ring improvement continues. From the world of White Collar to a serious world title contender. A truly remarkable story.
Dixon (9-0) added the European bauble to the Commonwealth title that she won in Liverpool earlier this year and is now nearing world title contention. She said it would be her coming out party, and she was right. Rhiannon Dixon is now very much in the world title mix.
