Caroline Dubois Eases Past Feriche Mashaury In Three Rounds

Feriche Mashaury did what she was expected to do, in truth, all she could do against the seriously impressive Caroline Dubois at the Wembley Arena in London on Saturday night.

The likes of Chantelle Cameron and Terri Harper had done similar, Mashaury knows her role. She performed slightly better than many imagined, surviving a 2nd round knockdown before the referee sensibly saved her in the following round for more of the same down the road.

Mashaury came in at short notice, but her ambition has long since gone, fights on the road do that, and her resistance was always liable to wane and quickly, but without such opponents, there would be no boxing. Mashaury came with negativity, not to win. Her role was to survive as long as possible. Nothing more.

Dubois is a fighter in a hurry, now 6-0, and already there is talk of world titles before the year ends. Dubois looks like a special talent and might be too good to be held back. But it might be wise if they could. Dubois needs fights that will test her, make her show, and give a little more. Finding such opponents will be difficult and expensive. Despite the win, Dubois was frustrated by her opponent’s lack of ambition. She wanted to show and give more. Dubois is only 22 but fights way beyond those embryonic fighting years. The type of fighter who will look even better against an opponent who comes to win. The likes of Mashaury are extremely difficult to look good against.

Katie Taylor sits at the top of the lightweight division, but Taylor is now, in the twilight of her career, and her division might be one without the Irish superstar this time next year. Dubois could be the one to replace her.
