Rhiannon Dixon Impressively Moves To 7-0 In Leeds
Even for someone who is notoriously self-critical, Rhiannon Dixon will have been extremely pleased with her night’s work in Leeds.
Dixon impressively improved her professional resume to 7-0 in beating the tough and seasoned Kristine Shergold on points by 80-73 on the referee’s scorecard in the Warrington southpaw’s first eight-round experience.
For six rounds, Dixon was near flawless, her footwork and use of angles particularly impressed. There was much variety in her work, excellent work to the body, working nicely off the jab and her backhand thudded home all night long. Dixon didn’t rush her work, an early fault now corrected, she was patient, and was rewarded for that patience.

Shergold was badly cut by her left eye in the 5th round, and after a torrid opening few rounds she did well to see the fight out. Dixon understandably showed signs of fatigue towards the end of the 7th and again in the final round, but was hugely impressive and can be well satisfied with her performance, again showing the improvements under the tutelage of the former world champion Anthony Crolla. It was her best performance to date, and I doubt we have even touched the surface of her potential.
The next 12 months promises plenty for Dixon and she more than deserves a place far higher up the card, the unbeaten lightweight prospect has more than outgrown the role of show opener. Dixon wants titles and there is no reason why she shouldn’t be in that position within the next two or three fights.
