Rhiannon Dixon Looking To Close Out The Year In Style

Rhiannon Dixon Looking To Close Out The Year In Style

The year started with an extended period of time on the sidelines. It could end with Rhiannon Dixon leaving 2022 extending her professional resume to seven fights unbeaten.

An operation to resolve a long-term hand injury kept Rhiannon Dixon out of action until a Spanish excursion in May saw Dixon overcome Mahjouba Oubtil in a rough and tumble affair that extinguished the accumulated ring rust and gave the Warrington lightweight prospect valuable minutes of experience in the process. A learning fight if ever there was one. Dixon fought many things on that night in Spain.

Edina Kiss left Nottingham empty-handed in September as Dixon showed her developing in-ring maturity and gave by far her best performance to date to move to 6-0 and showed real signs of a fighter who will go much further in the sport. The performance against the seasoned Kiss was one of improved patience and shot selection. And class.

Dixon closes out the year in Leeds on Saturday night as she opens the card in an interesting match-up against the experienced Kristine Shergold in Dixon’s first eight-round fight. Shergold will come to fight and she could be the opponent who allows Dixon to show a little more of her what she is really capable of.

The fight with Shergold will be the fourth time Dixon has graced the bright lights of a Matchroom fight night and the hope is, another win will see her moved further up the card, pushed a little harder and moved much nearer to title contention.

Dixon 27, has improved gradually under the tutelage of the former world champion Anthony Crolla, and in the win against Kiss last time out, she showed glimpses of what lies ahead. With the career as a pharmacist in an NHS Hospital temporarily put on hold, Dixon is now a full-time professional boxer, and that can only help and quicken her progress up the boxing ladder. There is obvious potential, we will now get to see just how much.

Despite her time on DAZN, Dixon still seems like a fighter who could be labelled as one of British boxing’s best-kept secrets. With the right push, Dixon has the talent and the personality to become a very big star in the sport. While there is no immediate rush, the time is fast approaching when Dixon needs a fight and a spot on a card to elevate her career to the next level. Dixon wants to remain active and get into title contention. 2023 should give her what she wants.
