Hopewell Stops Ferenczi On Her Professional Debut

Hopewell Stops Ferenczi On Her Professional Debut

It’s been 9 months in the making, but it was more than worth the wait for Nicola Hopewell in a highly impressive debut tonight in Sheffield.

Claudia Ferenczi normally stays the course, but Hopewell stopped her in the 6th and final round to get her professional career up and running in the most emphatic fashion.

It was one-way traffic from the get-go, Hopewell looking sharp and showing no signs of nerves or ring rust. After cruising through the opening three rounds, including some really good body work, Hopewell really started to find her mark in the 4th round landing some heavy-looking shots and threatened to overwhelm her experienced opponent.

Hopewell, now 1-0, had a particularly strong 5th round, and there were real signs that she could force the stoppage there and then. But Ferenczi survived but it would only be a temporary relief for the Slovakian. When it was more of the same in the 6th, the referee deemed Ferenczi unfit to continue and waved the fight off.

The Worksop super-flyweight can be proud of her performance and looks set to deliver on all the hype and promise that has long been around her long before she decided to test her skills in her new boxing home.

At 30, Hopewell has plenty of time and looks like a real talent. There will be tougher tests ahead, but she looks to have an extremely bright future ahead of her.
