Bellator Dublin: Three Potential Fights of the Night

Bellator Dublin: Three Potential Fights of the Night

By Dan McConnell

With just a little over six weeks to go until James Gallagher takes on Cal Ellenor at Bellator Dublin on February 22nd, the full card seems to be finalised with the addition of former UFC star Bec Rawlings and a familiar enemy of main-eventer Gallagher in Ricky Bandejas who takes on Frans Mlambo.

With the most stacked card we’ve seen so far in Ireland’s European series, I thought that I’d take a look at the three-potential fight of the night contenders to watch out for!

1: Brent Primus (9-1) vs Peter Queally (12-5-1)

We start with the most exciting fight on the card in my opinion. Former Bellator lightweight champion Brent Primus (9-1) will make the trip to Dublin to face home-town hero Peter ‘The Showstopper’ Queally (12-5-1).

Last time out Queally pulled off an incredible second round TKO victory over a tough Ryan Scope. Queally looked like he was going to be finished himself, but didn’t give up and stunningly turned the tide around. An incredible never say die attitude which gave the Irishman his first victory inside the Bellator cage and had the crowd out on their feet.

Brent Primus was the man to end former Bellator lightweight champion Michael Chandler’s dominance in the 155-pound division. Just like Chandler, Primus has been with the promotion for a long time from making his debut in 2013. In his last fight a first round Gogoplata submission victory over Tim Wilde firmly put his name back into title contention. This fight has the potential to be fight of the night, and one that many will have all eyes on.

2: Kiefer Crosbie (7-1) vs Iamik Furtado (6-1)

Ahead of Kiefer Crosbie’s next bout under the Bellator banner, he was expected to face American Hugh Pulley (8-4). However, it was announced that Pulley was pulled from the fight and that a replacement would be found for Crosbie.

Crosbie (7-1) will now take on Iamik Furtado (6-1) who seems a much tougher but interesting opponent for the Irishman to face. Furtado is from Guniea but fights out of Fortaleza Brazil and will make his Bellator debut this February. Both have similar records and will fight at a 160-pound catchweight.

Crosbie defeated Hugo Periera at last September’s Dublin event inside the 3 Arena, and will look to build on his unbeaten record as he solidifies his name as a possible welterweight title challenger. This will be his fifth fight inside the Bellator cage since signing with Bellator in 2018.

3: Oliver Enkamp (8-2) vs Lewis Long (17-5)

Down in the prelims, a welterweight contest between former UFC fighter Oliver Enkamp and Wales’ very own Lewis Long has the potential to give fight fans an early taste of high-octane action!

The Swede Enkamp, signed with the UFC in 2017 after amounting a 7-0 undefeated record. Two defeats to Nordine Taleb and Danny Roberts seen him make an early exit from the promotion after just two fight.
He was snapped up by Bellator and made his debut in June of 2019, beating Walter Gahadza on the Mousasi vs Lovato Jr card in London.

His opponent Lewis Long, (17-5) has been around the block, making his professional MMA debut back in 2008. At the age of 30 Long looks to make a name for himself with Bellator, after defeating a man both fighters have overcome in Walter Gahadza in November 2019.

It will be interesting to see which fighter can kick start their career and continue their winning streak inside the Bellator cage. There doesn’t seem much that separates the two fighters who will leave it all on the line come fight night!
