FightPost MMA Fighter of the Week: AJ McKee
By Dan McConnell
With Christmas week upon us it’s time to give the gift of this week’s FightPost MMA Fighter of the Week award!
The UFC’s octagon rolled into Busan, South Korea for the very first time. While Bellator held two cards in Hawaii ahead of the Christmas holidays this past weekend.
At UFC Busan, Canadian Charles Jourdain shocked the hometown fans, with a stunning knockout over Doo Ho Choi ‘The Korean Superboy’.
While in the main event Chang Sung Jung ‘The Korean Zombie’ put up an impressive performance, knocking out and dominating veteran Frankie Edgar. He only needed one round!
However it was at Bellator 236 in Hawaii, I felt the winner of this award is most deserving.
AJ McKee recorded his 5th submission victory with an armbar over a tough Derek Campos in the third round, in Saturday night’s co-main event.
The America continued his unbeaten streak and has racked up 16 consecutive victories. This is a record in the promotions history.
‘The Mercenary’ has a spotless record from he signed with Bellator in 2015, taking down big names such as Brian ‘Pikeman’ Moore, Daniel Crawford, Pat Curran and now Derek Campos.
McKee has been a fighter to feature on the Bellator Prospect Watch series, and one who can win either by submission, knockout or decision. It’s basically up to him to decide.
At 24 years old, McKee is one of the brightest prospects in the world of MMA right now!
The Californian will now face either former Bellator bantamweight champ Darrion Caldwell or the unbeaten 14-0 Adam Borics in the Bellator featherweight Grand Prix.
