Cage Warriors 111: Paddy Pimblett Fight Off
The long-awaited return of former Cage Warriors featherweight champion Paddy Pimblett will have to wait a little longer.
Pimblett’s scheduled opponent Joe Giannetti has failed to make the lightweight limit, and no agreement could be made on a catch weight contest, and as a result the fight is now off.
Giannetti took the fight at short notice and according to his social media account has had to cut over two stone in just over a week in his attempt to make 155lbs. Giannetti got down to 163lbs and then said his body just stopped sweating.
The two fighters then went on a Twitter exchange, and the tone of those exchanges makes the fight being re-booked highly unlikely.
Pimblett gambled in his last fight a losing effort to become a two-weight Cage Warriors champion against Soren Bak.
The Liverpool favourite went into the fight injured and he ignored medical advice to cancel the fight. Pimblett has been out of action since September 2018, and you can understand why he wouldn’t roll the dice again and fight in effect at welterweight against the American.
Pimblett was desperate to fight and vowed to make a real statement at the Indigo tomorrow night. As you can see from the attached picture, Pimblett looked in incredible shape, and the frustration his efforts in training have gone to waste will be obvious.
