UFC Sao Paulo: Blachowicz Defeats ‘Jacare’
The main event of the UFC’s latest visit to Brazil was one most will want to forget.
Despite edging past ‘Jacare’ Souza, Poland’s Jan Blachowicz failed to enhance his title credentials in a frustrating fight that saw very little action.
While Souza performed better than Luke Rockhold and Chris Weidman on their recent light heavyweigyt debuts, his recent slump continued and a long-awaited title shot might now never materialise.
Blachowicz keeps his good form going and called for a title fight with Jon Jones, on this performance Jones is unlikely to answer anytime soon.
MMA legend ‘Shogun’ Rua can consider himself unlucky not to get the decision over Scotland’s Paul Craig, while Craig will be regretting certain decisions he made in the fight when victory looked certain after a dominant opening round.
I had Rua 29-28 up at the finish, with the Brazilian recovering from a disastrous start to win the final two rounds, however, the judges somehow scored it a split draw.
Charles Oliveira kept his career resurgence well on track with the stand-out performance on the main card. Oliveira scored the only stoppage victory on the main card, brutally stopping Jared Gordon in the first round.
