Chisora vs Price Preview

By Will Lott

Derek Chisora will face late a replacement opponent in Scouse powerhouse David Price instead of Joseph Parker on a packed undercard of the World Boxing Super Series 140lb final between Josh Taylor and Regis Prograis at the O2.

Chisora was originally scheduled to fight former WBO heavyweight champion Parker but the New Zealander was forced to withdraw after a reaction to a spider bite in camp.

Price will step into the ring Saturday night with just a few weeks notice as he looks to spring an upset against the heavy handed Chisora.

Price will likely be brimming with confidence off the back of a one sided stoppage victory over Dave Allen a few months ago. On that night, Price executed his jab perfectly, boxing at range and landing powerful combinations at will, rightfully forcing Allen to be pulled from the fight in the tenth round.

For a heavyweight whose career looked over after a defeat to Sergey Kuzmin, the Liverpudlian has come on leaps and bounds in response to adversity. Victories over Allen and an impressive performance in a stoppage defeat to Alexander Povetkin, Price’s push for the top is not over yet.

Chisora is another real comeback story. Throughout his career, Chisora has mixed it with multiple top level opposition, from David Haye to Vitali Klitschko to Dillian Whyte but has sadly often come off second best to each man.

Despite defeats to these aforementioned fighters, Chisora has continued on a rebuilding process. He has secured shock stoppage wins against Carlos Takam and former Deontay Wilder victim, Artur Szpilka in the last year or so alone. As with Price, Chisora’s confidence upon entering the ring is likely to be through the roof.

Both men have the opportunity to knock on the doors of the world champions again with a win here. A sentence most fans wouldn’t have expected to be saying a few years ago. Both are massive punchers with a willingness to engage and we are sure to be in for a great night of action when these two juggernauts meet.

This is a real 50/50 fight and I along with most boxing fans can’t wait for the action to unfold.
