Darren Stewart: The Dentist Braces Himself for his Biggest Test at UFC Boston
By James Lee
Darren Stewart has the opportunity that fighters dream of on Friday. The chance to amass a fan base who follow and care extensively.
‘The Dentist’ can get England’s backing with a win in Boston. Arguably one of the best support systems to have in the world.
Support is mainly behind Darren Till in the country, but as of now an opening is available to take. The Londoner is always involved in exciting fights and has a finishing instinct that fans can get behind.
Stewart will look to secure his fifth UFC victory in Boston this weekend and one that will be his career’s biggest when he faces an undefeated, rising fighter who he can gain plenty from.
AKA’s Deron Winn is one of many of his gym’s upcoming fighters who are regularly alongside the flood of ex-champions like Daniel Cormier and Cain Velasquez as well as current lightweight champion and most dominant fighter in the sport Khabib Nurmagomedov.
Winn is a wrestler by trade but showed a lack of that in his UFC debut as he stood with Eric Spicely throughout the contest, which was awarded with the fight of the night bonus.
If the American implements the same game plan against Stewart, the fight should favour the Englishman, especially as he has the power to hurt Winn who won’t be able to just take the shots like he did in his last bout.
The pair have gone back-and-forth on social media and have promised an exciting fight but if the fight turns into what it could be, Stewart will seemingly have the edge over the 6-0 fighter.
Ultimately, the pressure is on for Stewart but it is positive pressure. A chance to earn major support and derail an undefeated fighter.
