UFC 243 Main Event Recap: Adesanya Stuns Whittaker
By Matt Wise
Israel Adesanya danced his way to the UFC middleweight title with a stunning second round KO of Robert Whittaker.
Adesanya looked as calm as ever as he put together a spectacular choreographed dancing display on his way to the octagon.
The Nigerian-New Zealander picked his shots in round one, using his evasiveness to dodge Whittaker’s hooks and fire back himself. Just before the horn, Adesanya landed flush to his opponent’s chin, and a dazed Whittaker walked gingerly back to his stool, the bell almost certainly extended his title reign.
Adesanya carried his momentum into the second round, but typically waited for his opportunity. He continued using his dancing feet to evade the hooks from Whittaker and, in a flash, the Aussie was sent to the floor and the fight was over.
The new undisputed king at 185 pounds pointed at the onlooking Paulo Costa, and appeared to set up his first title defense against the powerful Brazilian.
