UFC 242: Khabib Moves to 28-0
On the evidence of his performance at UFC 242 it will take a very good fighter to defeat Khabib Nurmagomedov, and that fighter might not yet exist.
Dustin Poirier had a weak claim to call himself the UFC lightweight champion, interim title or not he was never the best lightweight in the UFC.
Poirier didn’t really get going, he had a few moments, briefly his hands looked capable of causing the upset at the beginning of the 2nd round. A guillotine in the 3rd was his last throw of the dice, but it never looked likely.
Soon after what strength was left in his arms had evaporated Poirier was the one tapping at 2:06 of the same round.
Khabib is a phenom, a style that nobody has yet to solve, Tony Ferguson probably has enough variety in his game to have the best chance of removing the 0, but even he you would suspect would come up short.
Poirier like many others before him knows you simply can’t stay still or near the fence for a split second, and once Khabib has hold of you, you rarely escape.
Even in a talent rich division he plys his trade in, Khabib looks way above any of his potential challengers, Khabib Time could go on for some time yet.
