Amy Timlin is one of Britain’s brightest boxing prospects. Hailing from Southam, Warwickshire, Timlin began boxing as a 17 year-old, having started out as a kickboxer.

In her original discipline Timlin was a dominant force, winning five national titles along with european and world honors as an amateur. After switching to boxing Timlin turned pro after just 9 amateur bouts.

Timlin began her paid career in May and has already been out twice, prevailing both times with points wins.

Lee Harwood and I caught up with Amy for FightPost and we asked her a few questions about her boxing background and her fledgling career.

Henry: Hi Amy, thank you so much for taking the time to talk to fightpost.

Lee: Who or what inspired you to take up boxing?

Amy: My step dad inspired me to get into boxing, he took me to my first ever gym when I was 5 years old with my older brothers and I loved it.

Lee: What do you consider to be your biggest achievement in boxing?

Amy: My biggest achievement at the moment would be either winning my world title in kickboxing or getting selected to represent England at the worlds with the Great Britain team as an amateur.

Henry: As a women did you find it difficult to get respect in a sport where men still seem to get the majority of the attention?

Amy: Yeah I found it very difficult, I still do! Some people don’t like woman’s boxing and always find a way to slag females off in the sport which I find highly disrespectful.

Lee: How different have you found the pro game to the amateurs?

Amy: I’ve always been more of a pro boxer to be honest, I’ve never really had an amateur style of fighting and that’s why I’ve found the transition quite easy and I’ve adapted well to the pros.

Lee: What are your ambitions in boxing?

Amy: My biggest ambition is to be world champion and that’s what I’ve got my eyes set on, nothing less! I want to go straight to the very top and I won’t give up until that happens.

Lee. What advice would you give for any young girls who want to take up boxing?

Amy: My advice would be to enjoy it, not to put any pressure on themselves! This sport is fun when you enjoy doing it, I would also advise them to surround themselves with the right people, those who support them because negativity is contagious so surrounding themselves with them type of people will have a negative effect on them.

Lee: If you could fight any boxer alive or dead from history who would you fight and why?

Amy: We aren’t the same weight but sharing the ring with Katie Taylor would be a dream come true, she’s class and if I were to fight her I’d be honoured as it would be the best experience of my life.

Henry: Who is your favourite boxer?

Amy: I’ve got a few but my number one favourite boxer would be Anthony Crolla, always been a massive fan of his! I watch his fights on YouTube pretty much everyday just to analyse and pick up on a few things, and closely followed by Stephen Smith, Billy Joe Saunders and Anthony Fowler.

Henry: When and where is your next fight and who is it against?

Amy: My next fight is on October 12th and it’s held at the Kings Hall in Stoke, I’m not sure on my opponent just yet as my manager is still trying to find me someone.

Henry: Are you currently sponsored by anyone?

Amy: Yes I have a few sponsors but none of which are paying for my fights, just food prep, leisure centre, vitamins, printing and fight kit.

Henry: Thanks again for your time and all the best for the 12th of October!
