FightPost MMA Fighter of the Week: Stipe Miocic
Despite many great performances at UFC 241, there can really only be one winner of this week’s FightPost MMA Fighter of the Week.
Stipe Miocic was looking for revenge and to reclaim his UFC heavyweight title against Daniel Cormier.
Miocic survived a nightmare start to the fight, losing the stand-up battle before being slammed to the canvas by Cormier.
Despite having success of his own, Miocic was losing the fight heading to into the 4th round.
Cormier will regret not using his wrestling more, he was doing well on the feet, but was looking to knock his opponent out, probably thinking what he did in the first fight he could do again.
But Miocic took punches he had no right to absorb. He stayed in the fight, and as the 4th round played out, he suddenly started attacking the body, with immediate success.
Cormier gradually started to wilt, and eventually he found himself an ex-champion.
Miocic looked a beaten and broken man at times, but he wouldn’t give up where previous Cormier opponents have. He wanted to beat Cormier and right the wrongs from the first fight, and nobody can argue it was point proven.
