Is Otto Wallin Next For Tyson Fury?
While there is no official confirmation as yet, it looks highly likely that the unknown Swedish heavyweight Otto Wallin will face Tyson Fury on September 14th in Las Vegas.
Wallin is unbeaten and has 20 wins with 1 no contest, but is that down to the ability of Wallin or the ability of the opponents he has faced. According to Talksport, those opponents have 259 defeats with only 271 wins between them, not an encouraging statistic.
Wallin is ranked 4th in by the WBA and 11th by the IBF, but when you consider Tom Schwarz was ranked 2nd by the WBO, you will have to make up your own minds on the validity of those rankings.
Wallin or Schwarz don’t belong anywhere near the top 10 of the European rankings let alone being considered near the elite of world level.
Fury is due to face Deontay Wilder next year, and was always going to be facing a similar quality of opponent to Schwarz, low risk to what lies ahead.
Despite the inevitable spin that will follow, you don’t have to look too far below the surface to know what the fight is all about.
I understand Fury wants this type of fight, but as with the Schwarz fight it will undoubtedly end up as another PPV show for UK fans. This is where the problem lies, its the equivalent of being asked to pay extra for Manchester City against Bury.
If confirmed, Fury vs Wallin is nothing more than a glorified sparring session, a stay busy fight that should be nowhere near being on a PPV platform.
