Covington Dominates Lawler
Colby Covington walked out to Kurt Angle’s WWE theme tune, many would say rather fittingly in many ways.
The crowd chanted ‘You Suck’ to Covington as he walked to the Octagon, they quickly realised as a fighter he most certainly doesn’t.
Covington has built his wrestling style heel persona to absolute perfection, whatever you think of him as a person, there can’t be much doubt about his fighting qualities.
Covington dominated the former UFC welterweight champion from start to finish in their main event in Newark, claiming a lopsided decision by scores of 50-45, 50-45 and 50-44.
Using his usual relentless wrestling heavy gameplan for two rounds, before showing his improving skills on the feet for the remainder of the fight, Covington was in total control.
Lawler had the odd moment of success, but that’s all, he was a thoroughly beaten fighter.
Covington extends his win streak to 7 and called out the current champion Kamaru Usman, and there shouldn’t be too much debate about it, that has to be the fight to make.
